MY REVIEW

We’re the lawyer and the tramp. We’re a match made in the underworld.

I have a question to the author first: how could you do that to Eva? How? You know what I'm talking about. Was this pain necessary??? Don't worry, I forgive you :D

Who doesn't love a story about a woman who sacrifices herself for the greater good, for the welfare of someone else? A woman who will do anything, absolutely anything, to protect and care for those she loves. I have to start this off with stating how much I respected the heck out of Eva. Her choices were a bit suspect, but I don't know what my choices would be in the same situation. Her heart was huge and I loved this chica so much. Add Carmine and his suave moves, his wealth and the accoutrements that came along with that, his intellect, his overwhelming sex appeal, his inherent modesty, his humbleness, and the vast love and respect he held for his family, I was in love with these characters.

I enjoy a good game of cat and mouse like everyone else, but the game that Carmine and Eva were playing was not only treacherous, but it could turn out to be lethal. Carmine Montesi is the Consigliere for the Chicago Syndicate and he takes his job seriously. He’s loyal, intelligent, cunning, and super sexy. Eva Conley is an escort for all the right reasons. One night, she walks in on Carmine with another escort. After a heated exchange, Eva finds his watch in the room and confiscates it. Intent on returning it to him, he continues to aggravate her, and she keeps it. Determined to get his watch back, the cat and mouse game begins and for some, it has fatal consequences.

He’s an ass. She’s the enemy. They hate each other from the first time they meet.

So very true. Between their banter and off-the-charts chemistry, these two couldn’t seem to leave each other alone. But they also couldn’t be more incompatible. Yet somehow they fit. Dealing with subterfuge, another deadly game of which they didn’t choose to be players, betraying the Syndicate, keeping secrets from his family, protecting Eva, and falling all over each other, these characters definitely kept me entertained.

I’m a huge fan of the Chicago Syndicate series. The author allows elements of intrigue, murder and mayhem, mafia rules, and love to intermingle in interesting ways. Once you think things will go one way, the author pulls the rug out from under you and surprises you with another outcome. Although this book can be read as a standalone, I highly suggest that you start from the beginning with For Fallon. If you’re a fan of mafia romance, I can’t recommend this series enough!
