    Review: Hot Blooded Prizefighter

Hot Blooded Prizefighter Hot Blooded Prizefighter by Mickey Miller
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another great banger from the partnership of Mickey Miller and Holly Dodd. I was impressed with their first venture, Dirty CEO (loved me some Vince), and book two of this series has cemented my fandom. I was already intrigued by Connor (he had me laughing in book 1) and so I was happy AF to get the chance to read his story.

Connor was an Irish-born MMA fighter whose trash-talking had him appearing as an unsafe bet for endorsements. What he needed was an image consultant and Crystal was just the right woman for the job. The chemistry between these two was instant and hot as hell. They were freaking combustible. While Crystal didn't really do it for me (she actually annoyed me with her judgmental attitude and at times I found her not only rude but disrespectful), Connor more than made up for her deficiencies. He was raw, real, open, humble, funny, honest and caring while managing to be quite dominant, alpha, and a successful fighter. I even adored him when he was being arrogant, rough, aggressive or obtuse. I appreciated the deviation from making all heroes unrealistically drop-dead gorgeous. The authors made Connor seem so real.

There's insanely hot sex, interesting dialogue, some drama thrown in to keep things spicy, and a sweet love story to boot to keep any romance reader happy. I'm eager to see what these authors will collaborate on next.

    Review: Guarded

    Guarded Guarded by Kayla White
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Hannah was hard to like but I think that was intentional. I started to like her towards the end because she seemed to finally grow up a bit and changed for the better. Parker was always a likable character, however, as hard and as tough as he was made out to be perceived, he really wasn't. I think what bothered me most was the fact that the cover claims this book to be "A HOT STEAMY ROMANCE", but that's not what I got. At least it didn't come across like that for me. It has a heavy contemporary feel with one good does of steam. Which floats the boat of many good people. I'm just not one of them.

While I liked the premise of this story, my heart just wasn't in it. If I'm being completely honest, I almost gave up on it. Luckily the story started to pick up at around the 40% mark and I began enjoying where the author was taking me. Unfortunately the story ended at the 64% so I only had roughly a good 20% to base this review on. Overall, a fine read. Would I try this author again? Yes. I liked her writing style and things can only get better from here.

    Review: His Dirty Girl

His Dirty Girl His Dirty Girl by Jax Hart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Quick and dirty, fun and flirty! The story of nurse Ashley and Dr. Seth was a sweet, short and smutty read. It's clear that they're both incredibly attracted to each other but are unsure if the feelings are reciprocated and they're both fighting the intense chemistry that sparks between them. There wasn't much on plot but I certainly enjoyed the way this story was structured and I look forward to more from this new-to-me author.

    Review: Grayson

    Grayson Grayson by Crimson Syn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

WOWSA!! Grayson and Rahyne's story was really short but really hot. The author did a fine job of mixing smut and plot. Who could ask for more? I was already fascinated with Grayson's happy ending when I met him in Wolf and I'm pretty satisfied with the way it was accomplished. The Hell's Lovers are at war with the Moreno brothers and I can't wait to see how the story arc will play out when we get Rigg's story in August!

    My best friend is married.

Everyone I know is married. It doesn’t bother me.

I like my life the way it is.

Since I’m single though, when my best friend and her husband finally decide to go on their dream honeymoon, she asks me to watch their three-year-old son.

    Of course I say yes.

What my best friend neglects to tell me is that I won’t be babysitting alone.

Feeling Max might be too much for me to handle, her husband asks his only single friend to help.

Nick Carrington and I have met a couple of dozen times. I’ve never really given him a second thought—other than to say he’s kind of a jerk. Out loud. So he can hear. Sure, he’s tall, dark, and handsome. And yes, he has the best ass I’ve ever seen, and I mean ever seen quite literally. You see he mooned me at last year’s Fourth of July barbecue because, like I said, he’s a jerk

He always has to be the life of the party

     He’s also arrogant.

    Imposing.

    Rich.

    And a playboy.

I’d even go as far as to say he’s a manwhore.

    Review: Sexy Jerk

Sexy Jerk Sexy Jerk by Kim Karr
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 "Sexy Jerk turned Sexy Forever" stars!

Ever meet someone who gets on your last damn nerve? Someone who, no matter what, never leaves you with a good impression of them? Imagine being stuck with this person while babysitting your bestie's child for two weeks. Oh, the horror.

Well, Tess has always viewed Nick as a jerk. There was absolutely no love lost between them because Nick thought she was a stuck-up something or other. But he didn't really think that. He thought she was not only sexy and stunning, he knew the awesomeness that she was. Unfortunately, Tess was a judgmental tool and based her entire perception of Nick on face value. She almost cost this story its 5 star rating, truth be told. Most people who read my reviews know that I'm quite picky when it comes to the heroines I like or love or would rather pass on. This is mainly because as a woman, I find that I'm more likely to want to connect to the female lead than the male. Obviously. So when a heroine is depicted as someone who would be irksome in real life, someone who I wouldn't associate with, I'm like...

That's just me. I don't have time to suffer small or closed-minded fools. Anyhoo, if you don't believe me about Tess, Nick summed her up quite nicely:
    "She's a little too uptight.
    Bitchy even.
    Judgmental.
    Complicated."

    Catch my drift?

So... in the beginning I didn't much like Tess, but towards the end, I realized that she really grew on me. I think a lot of that had to do with the way she tried to put aside her assumptions and opinions and snap judgments and have a more open mind.

I had no problem with Nick. Bash me all you want. I don't give a fluck. I didn't have a problem with him at all. He was handsome, sexy, dirty, successful, cautious, had some mommy issues, and he was most definitely multi-layered like an onion. I loved the chemistry between him and Tess and how the author allowed them to take a leap of faith with each other. This story was hot, sweet, and messily romantic and I can't wait to get to see more of these characters and get to know one of the side characters a little better. Jace is next in Big Shot.

    Review: All of You

All of You All of You by Callie Harper
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

    4.5 "I'm all in" stars!!

I think most people, by now, know that I'm a huge fan of Callie Harper's. HUGE FAN!! She lures me in with her tender yet hot as hell alpha heroes and her sweet as pie yet sassy heroines.

Jax and Sky immediately won my heart over. Sky was a nurse's aide at a retirement home with a penchant for baking pies. The emphasis on her baking abilities did get on my nerves but it did serve a purpose. Jax's grandfather was a resident at the home. He typically visited every Monday and soon Sky learned to anticipate and eagerly look forward to her Mondays at work. The problem: she was married. Sky was in an abusive relationship and was constantly making excuses for his behavior. She was caught in a cycle and no matter how much others tried to show her the truth or tried to help her, she wasn't hearing it. One day she finally had enough. Yet she still wouldn't turn to Jax... until she had no choice.

If I were to nitpick, my issue was with the way Sky handled everything. I wasn't a huge admirer of hers. She was careless and inconsiderate while supposedly having a huge and compassionate heart. I didn't get why she couldn't see what she was doing. She knew Jax was her symbol of hope and love, her light in the darkness, yet she constantly turned him away. I was in love with Jax. He got all of the stars of this review. He had a rough beginning and as a grown man he had the look of a badass, but for the most part he wasn't. He lived legit, had his wits about him, was a successful entrepreneur, and had a heart of gold. A heart he continuously offered to Sky.

Despite the fact that here was obviously cheating in this book, it was in no way distasteful. In truth, it didn't feel like cheating, although it most definitely was, and I was cheering these characters on. I just wanted Jax to get his happy ending. He was never the side dude. He couldn't be anything less than everything. If you're looking for a hot and steamy romance, and I mean HAWT, you can't go wrong with ALL OF YOU. I'm sure Jax will conquer your heart as completely as he did mine.

    Review: Taken

Taken Taken by N. Isabelle Blanco
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As the first installment of the Voyeur series, TAKEN was short but packed one hell of a punch. Ivy and Noah are best friends who have woken up in a strange room only to realize that they've both been drugged and kidnapped. With more questions than answers, they're not left wondering for too long because their captor(s) make it clear that they are toys/pawns/victims of a very sick game. They don't know who took them, why they were chosen, what the captor(s) end game is, or whether or not they will even survive.

This story is chilling, dark and erotic. I liked the play on hidden emotions. It's very clear that Ivy has strong feelings for Noah, which she has forced herself to hid to protect herself, but this intense situation is forcing them to the surface. I also liked how protective Noah was and how it seemed that some of those feelings were reciprocated. I can't wait to see how this story develops.

I'm not a huge fan of cliffhangers but the authors did a great job of sucking me into this story and I for one am anxious to find out the answers to all of my questions and how things will play out for these characters.

    Review: Mr. Fiancé

Mr. Fiancé Mr. Fiancé by Lauren Landish
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you've read Anaconda, then you've already met Brianna's bestie, Mindy, who appeared to be unfiltered and unapologetic. If you haven't read that book (and you really should if you haven't), get ready to meet and fall for her and Oliver just as I have.

Mindy's mother is getting married and is adamant that Mindy attend. She also expects her to bring her dear fiance, Harold, the man she's been engaged to for a year, as her plus one so everyone can get the chance to meet him. However, there's a slight problem with that. You see, Harold doesn't exist. Rather than admit to her lies, Mindy enlists the help of Brianna and her husband, Gavin, in order to find her a stand-in. Gavin finds his friend Oliver to fit the bill. It doesn't hurt that Oliver owes Gavin $500,000 after a poker loss and doing this one favor will wipe out that debt.

Both characters... actually I enjoyed ALL of the characters in this book. Mindy's family was... interesting... and I found them as open and honest as she was (well as she was most of the time). It was hard to stomach Mindy's weakness and her need to lie, but her coming-of-age moments where worthwhile and gave her character true dimension. I also liked watching Oliver and Mindy fall for one another and how, for the most part, they lived in the moment and didn't try to hide or fight it.

I'm guessing Mindy's sister, Roxy, may be getting a story of her own. That's my prediction and I think it would be fun because that girl is a riot!
